AURORA, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team slipped to 4-4 overall after falling 107-95 to Aurora University.
After Elmhurst scored the opening basket of the game, Aurora (4-6) took control. Leading 15-10 just five minutes into the contest, the Spartans outscored the Bluejays 43-25 for the remainder of the half and had a commanding 58-35 lead at halftime.
Aurora built a 29-point advantage midway through the second half, before the Bluejays closed to within 11 points with two minutes to play. Elmhurst chipped the Spartans' lead down to 10 points, but could not get any closer as Aurora closed out the contest with a 107-95 victory.
Elmhurst shot 55.4 percent (31-of-56) from the field, including 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) from downtown. The Bluejays struggled at the foul line, shooting just 68.6 percent (24-of-35).
Aurora finished the game hitting 55.9 percent (38-of-68) of its shots. The Spartans shot 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from downtown, and 87.5 percent (21-of-24) from the foul line.
Aurora finished with a 35-28 advantage on the glass. The Spartans also forced 15 Elmhurst turnovers, scoring 21 points off of the Bluejays' mistakes.
Chris Childs came off the bench to lead Elmhurst with 20 points in the win. Childs shot 6-of-7 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
Zack Boyd added 19 points for the Bluejays.
James Robertson finished with a season-high 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Robertson shot 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Joe Acosta added 12 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
Aurora's starters combined for 88 of the Spartans' 107 points. Ari Iventosch led the charge with 22 points and five assists. Shane Roland totaled 20 points while Dusty Magee finished with 19 points and five assists. Lance Robinson narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 15 points and nine assists. Skyler Ormsbee added 12 points for the Spartans.
Elmhurst hosts Westminster College on Monday, December 21.
