Elmhurst Football Team Routs North Park 47-10

CHICAGO, Ill. - Freshman running back Scottie Williams totaled over 200 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Elmhurst College football team to a 47-10 win at North Park University.

Elmhurst (4-2 overall, 1-2 in the CCIW) rolled up a whopping 568 yards of total offense while limiting North Park (1-5 overall, 0-3 in the CCIW) to only 172 yards. The 568 yards of offense is the third highest single-game offensive output in Elmhurst history. The Bluejays rushed for 368 yards and passed for 200. The 368 yards on the ground marks the fourth highest single-game total in Elmhurst history.

Williams was the star of the Bluejays' offense, totaling over 200 yards and scoring three times. Williams rushed 14 times for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns while also catching three passes for 45 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 11.1 yards per carry and scored from 35 and four yards out on the ground. He caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Joe Furco to account for his third score.

Elmhurst jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead after a 30-yard field goal from Tyler Lomnicki and the 26-yard touchdown from Furco to Williams.

North Park scored its only touchdown of the game after Williams' first score. Michael Lee took the ensuing kickoff 93 yards to the end zone to put the Vikings on the board.

The Bluejays answered right back, driving 60 yards in less than a minute, with Williams scampering into the end zone from 35 yards out.

After a North Park field goal cut Elmhurst's lead down to 17-10, the Bluejays took advantage of a pair of North Park fumbles to pad their first half lead. Blake Veldhuis caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Furco less than two minutes after the Bluejays recovered the first North Park fumble. After another Viking turnover, Furco raced into the end zone from 19 yards out to give Elmhurst a 30-10 lead at the half.

The Bluejays outscored the Vikings 17-0 in the second half. Lomnicki added a 21-yard field goal while Williams scored his third touchdown of the game on a four-yard run. Derek Hunter capped the Bluejays' scoring with a one-yard touchdown plunge in the fourth quarter.

Nick Herreraalso had a huge game on the ground, rushing for 101 yards on 13 carries. Hunter carried seven times for 61 yards and a score. Furco finished 13-of-20 from 200 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Veldhuis was Furco's top target, catching four passes for 79 yards and a touchdown.

Shelby Wood led the Vikings' offense with 18 rushing yards on 20 attempts. He finished 7-of-16 for just 98 yards through the air. The Bluejay defense registered five sacks of Wood in the game.

Randy Wright anchored Elmhurst's defense with 11 tackles. Kyle DeMus added nine tackles while also forcing and recovering a fumble. Jon Janus added eight stops for the Bluejays.

Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 24.
