ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team, ranked 16th in the latest NWCA poll, improved to 3-0 in dual meet competition by hammering Wheaton College 42-6.
Wheaton gave the Bluejays an 18-0 advantage by forfeiting matches at 157 pounds, 197 pounds, and 285 pounds. Elmhurst quickly tacked on to its lead by winning the first four matches. Tyler Winland scored a 16-0 technical fall victory over Wheaton's Caleb Cardenas at 125 pounds. Ben Salabura pinned Wheaton's Jonathan Sbraccia in 1:55 to score a win at 133 pounds. Elmhurst's Rob Lejman needed only 1:01 to pin Wheaton's Jeff Coners at 141 pounds. Charlie Curran, ranked seventh in the latest NWCA poll, scored a 16-4 major decision over Wheaton's Matthew Cordell at 149 pounds.
Wheaton got on the scoreboard when Justin Marble earned a 6-4 sudden victory over Elmhurst's Tim Gleich at 165 pounds. At the 174 pound weight class, the Bluejays' Frank Savegnago defeated Wheaton's Justin Tomal 5-2. Wheaton's Toby Boltz scored an 8-2 win over Elmhurst's Garrett Washington at 184 pounds.
