Melissa Schwab

Education:
Schwab played basketball collegiately at Concordia University-Chicago from 2007-10. She completed her bachelor's degree in marketing and management in 2010.  After taking a season off from basketball to complete her MBA, she returned to play her senior season in 2012 and began working on her Ph.D. in Organization Leadership Development with an emphasis in Sports Management.  Schwab strives to develop her leadership and coaching through various national programs.  In May 2024, Schwab attended the Marine Corps College Educators and Coaches Workshop at Quantico, Virginia. Additionally, Schwab attended multiple WeCOACH Academy classes and presented for the WeCOACH Youth & High School Coaches Academy.

Responsibilities:
Schwab supports all student-athletes and coaches from the 21 athletics programs at Elmhurst.  Aiming to enhance the student-athlete experience in the classroom, in the field of competition, and throughout preparation for post-graduate plans. Schwab focuses on student retention, advises academically at-risk students, as well as provides additional support that Bluejay student-athletes need. 
As head women's golf coach, Schwab continues to grow the program and develop the women's golf team into confident, and competent young adults.  "Preparing them for life is my responsibility as a coach." Thus far, the Women's Golf Team continues to be very competitive in the ranks and has broken every scoring record at Elmhurst. 
Lastly, as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach, Schwab is the first woman to coach a men's basketball program at Elmhurst and in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.  

Prior Experience:
Schwab debuted her coaching career as an assistant at Concordia University Chicago for two seasons from 2013-15. From 2015-18 she served as the head girls basketball coach at St. Francis College Prep and their Admissions and Administrative Assistant. Schwab led the Spartans to a regional championship in 2016 with a 21-10 record. After a short departure from coaching as a Client Relationship Manager for a digital media company, she made her way back into coaching initially as a volunteer into the full-time women's assistant basketball coach in 2020. Her coaching career also includes many years with the Chicago Bulls Training Academy, volunteering for the Special Olympics Organization, and with local park districts.
