Liam Hartley is in his second season as Elmhurst’s Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Programs.
Prior to coming to Elmhurst, Hartley was the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach for Iowa City Regina Catholic High School in Iowa City, Iowa from 2018 to 2020. In his three cross country seasons at Regina, Hartley coached the Regina girls' teams to a runner-up, fifth-place and third-place team finishes at the Class 1A Iowa High School State Championships. He coached an all-state individual finisher in 2018 and 2019 and a school record in the girls’ 5,000 meter run in 2020.In the 2019 season, Hartley coached one of the Regina boy's team member to the highest-placing finish by a freshman in the 1A state meet (32nd overall).
Prior to his time at Regina, Hartley was a volunteer assistant cross country and track & field coach at the University of Iowa from 2017-2018. During his time at Iowa, Hartley helped coach a Big 10 championship winning distance medley relay team on the men’s side, and multiple top-10 program history times in multiple distance races for the men’s program.
Hartley ran for Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa from 2012-2016 where he earned all-conference accolades in the indoor mile, distance medley relay, and was the conference runner-up in the men’s 1,500 in 2016. Hartley was also a member of the 2015 NCAA championship qualifying cross country team while at Wartburg.
