THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Elmhurst would struggle to avoid the big inning on Friday, as the Bluejays fell in a doubleheader at California Lutheran, 9-6 in game one, and 12-4 in a six-inning game two.
Game 1
Cal Lutheran 9, Elmhurst 6

The Bluejays came out strong, with the first seven batters reaching base in the top of the 1st. One out on the base paths and another on an interference call would shorten the rally, with Elmhurst taking three runs on six hits in the frame.
Cal Lutheran responded right away with two runs in the bottom of the 1st, but Annamarie Vivirito's RBI single in the 4th inning scored Kaylee Aimone to make it a 4-2 Elmhurst lead.
The home team would tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the 5th, but the Jays battled back in the next inning, scoring two more runs on RBI singles from Vivirito and Grace Hayes.
The lead would be short-lived, as Cal Lutheran put together a five-run rally in the 6th, to take their first lead of the game and go on for the win.
Vivirito would go 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in two RBI and scoring a run. Hayes also collected four hits in the game, with a pair of RBI.
Game 2
Cal Lutheran 12, Elmhurst 4 (6 innings)
WP: Oergel • LP: Hoyh (0-4)
The Regals put a big number up in the 1st inning, posting six runs on six hits to start game two. Elmhurst would respond in the top of the 2nd, after Tia Splitgerber led off the frame with a single and later scored on a Regal fielding error. Hailee Jenkins would later drive in two runs with a two-out double to right-center, cutting the deficit to 6-3.
In the top of the 5th, the Bluejays would get another run when the first four batters reached base, with Maddie Kreich getting the RBI single to drive in Brenna Morley. In the bottom half of the frame however, Cal Lutheran would go on another rally, with five runs on five hits to pull away, 11-4. The Regals would end the game on run rule after posting another run in the bottom of the 6th to close out the day.
Kreich finished 3-for-3 in the game, while Morley went 2-for-4 as the pair recorded the two multi-hit performances in the second game of the day.
The Bluejays will close out their California swing Saturday afternoon, when they take on La Verne (Calif.) in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
