Bluejays Remain Unbeaten with Win at Benedictine

RECAP

LISLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's soccer team continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 road victory at Benedictine University on Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first half, the Bluejays broke through in the 75th minute when junior forward Kelli Coughlin converted a penalty kick to put Elmhurst on the board. Just minutes later, Elmhurst had a chance to double its lead from the spot, but Benedictine goalkeeper Marissa Amador came up with a save on Angie Lopez's attempt.

Elmhurst dominated play throughout, outshooting the Eagles 26-1 and putting 19 shots on goal. Coughlin led the Bluejays with five shots, while Courtney Conlon and Grace Bray each added four attempts. Amador kept Benedictine in the match with 18 saves.

In goal, Erin Fitzharris earned the win for Elmhurst, making one save to record her first solo shutout of the season.

With the win, Elmhurst improved to 3-0-0 on the year, while Benedictine dropped to 0-2-0. The Bluejays continue their road trip with a matchup at nationally-ranked No. 22 Illinois Tech this Saturday, September 6, with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m. in Chicago.
