Bluejays Earn Senior Day Win over Great Lakes Christian

RECAP

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 victory over Great Lake Christian on Saturday evening at Langhorst Field, scoring all four goals in a dominant first-half performance. With the win, the Bluejays improved to 5-1-1 on the season.

Elmhurst controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, generating consistent pressure and earning four first-half corner kicks. After several near chances, the breakthrough came in the 29th minute when Courtney Conlon slotted home her first goal of the season to give the Bluejays a 1-0 advantage.

Just seven minutes later, Elmhurst doubled the lead. Maddie Cummings set up Lauren Nevins, who finished for her team-leading fifth goal of the year. Cummings then added her own tally in the 40th minute, pushing the margin to 3-0. The Bluejays capped the half with another strike just before the break, as freshman Sophia Burkhead buried a shot off an assist from Ellie Muscarello to make it 4-0.

The Bluejays' attack tallied 19 total shots, 11 on frame, led by Kelli Coughlin with five attempts and three on target. Conlon, Nevins, Cummings, and Burkhead each found the net, while Cummings and Muscarello picked up assists. Grace Bray, Celeste Chapa, and Nicole Schreiner also contributed shots on goal.

Defensively, Elmhurst stifled the visitors, limiting Great Lake Christian to just two shots for the match. Goalkeepers Megan Kleve and Sequoia Ross combined for the shutout, with Kleve making two saves in 71 minutes of action before giving way to Ross for the final 19 minutes.

Elmhurst finished with six fouls and picked up yellow cards on Nevins and Haley Jeske. Great Lake Christian's keeper, Caroline Huistra, kept the scoreline from growing with seven saves despite the pressure.
