ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's basketball team hosted Carthage College on Wednesday (Feb. 19th) in the hopes of recording a win to push for one of the two remaining spots in the CCIW Conference tournament.
The Bluejays (15-8, 8-7 CCIW) were led by a combination of
Sierra Gibson,
Kristin Bukata and
Lindsay Novak. Gibson would add 19 points with five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block, while Bukata would add 18 points along with seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. Novak would 18 points with two rebounds.
The Firebirds (16-8, 8-7 CCIW) were led by Marianna Morrissey as she dropped 27 points and was one rebound away from recording a double-double, while adding two steals and a block.
In the First quarter both teams would go on there own offensive runs, but the Bluejays would come ahead 21-20 at the end of the first. The Second quarter would consist of a more back and forth affair as both teams would trade baskets and even the lead a combined 12 times, this would leave the game tied 37-37 going into halftime. The Third quarter the Bluejays would start fast and push their lead all the way up to eight points, but the Firebirds wouldn't walk away quietly as they would come right back and take a one point lead into the fourth. The Bluejays would continue to stay hot in the Fourth quarter as they were scoring at will, the Firebirds were only able to muster 13 points in the fourth which allowed the Bluejays to walk away with the win 75-68.

The Bluejays will look to close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 22nd as they host Carroll University at 2:00pm.
