Bluejays Earn First CCIW Win With Shutout Over Carroll

The Elmhurst University women's soccer team picked up its first conference win of the season with a 2-0 shutout of Carroll University on Wednesday night at Langhorst Field. With the victory, the Bluejays improved to 9-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in CCIW play.

Elmhurst struck early, opening the scoring in the 10th minute. Maddie Cummings buried her fourth goal of the season at 9:54 to put the Bluejays ahead 1-0. The Bluejays continued to generate pressure throughout the first half, with Lauren Nevins forcing two saves from Carroll keeper Ava Lewandowski, while the Elmhurst defense limited the Pioneers to just two first-half shots.

In the second half, Elmhurst built on its lead with a late strike. After several substitutions and back-and-forth play, Nevins delivered her ninth goal of the season in the 86th minute, sealing the 2-0 result. Nevins finished with a team-high four shots, three of them on target, while Emily Herlihy and Angie Lopez also tested the Carroll goal.

Defensively, goalkeeper Erin Fitzharris anchored the shutout with three saves, one in the first half and two in the second. Elmhurst's backline held Carroll to just four total shots and three on goal, while the Bluejays managed nine shots and seven on frame.

Elmhurst earned three corner kicks and held a steady advantage in possession throughout the match. Lopez received a yellow card in the 81st minute, the only booking of the game.

With the win, Elmhurst bounced back in conference play and will look to carry the momentum into its upcoming CCIW slate.
