ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's basketball team closed out their season series with Augustana College on Wednesday night (Jan. 29th). 

The Bluejays (12-6, 4-6 CCIW), were led by a combination of Kristin Bukata with 18 points while adding eight assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block, while Sierra Gibson also added 18 points with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 

The Vikings (7-12, 3-7 CCIW), were led by Paige Melton as she scored 17 points while adding six rebound and an assist, while Cali Papez would record a double double with 13 points and rebounds with one assist and steal. 


The First quarter went by quickly with both teams scoring 17 and 15 points respectively with the Vikings taking the small lead. The Second quarter would be all Bluejays as they would have two runs of outscoring the Vikings to take a 39-35 lead into halftime. The Third quarter would be a flip flop from the Second as the Vikings would go on a 17-2 run to reclaim the lead, but it was short lived as both teams would go back and forth reclaiming the lead from the other, the Third would end at a 58-58 tie. In the Fourth quarter the Bluejays were able to stomp out the Vikings as they were unable to convert a field goal for over four minutes while during that time the Bluejays were able to score nine points from the field. The Vikings were able to claw back to a five point deficit with 45 seconds left but with solid defense and hitting there free throws the Bluejays were able to even up the season series against the Augustana Vikings with the final score of 80-71.

The Bluejays will return to play as they host #2/3 Illinois Wesleyan University for another CCIW contest on Saturday, Feb. 1st at 2:00pm.
