ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University softball team dropped a pair of CCIW contests to Millikin University Sunday afternoon at Salt Creek Park.
Elmhurst (10-20, 1-9 CCIW) dropped game one by a score of 1-0 after a seventh-inning rally fell short, and briefly took a lead in game two but ended up giving up the lead to fall, 4-2.
The Bluejays were able to work out of multiple jams in game one, limiting Millikin (18-12, 6-4 CCIW) to just one run, and were able to start a rally in the seventh. Back-to-back singles from
Ilyssa Calderon and
Ali Mockenhaupt put two on with two outs, but a strikeout extinguished the flames for the Bluejays in the one-run defeat. Despite a strong start of 4.0 innings, giving up four hits and just one unearned run,
Emma Lenczewski took the loss to drop to 2-2 on the season.
In game two, Millikin plated a run early before an Elmhurst rally highlighted by a pair of bases-loaded walks from Calderon and Mockenhaupt gave the Bluejays a 2-1 lead through two innings. However, one run each in the third, fourth, and fifth innings gave Millikin a 4-2 lead, one that the Big Blue would hold on to until the end.
