Bluejays Take Two at CCIW Duals

WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's wrestling team took two victories at the 2024 CCIW Duals, hosted at Wheaton College, Saturday morning/afternoon.

The Bluejays improved to 7-4 overall and a 4-3 mark in CCIW competition with wins over Lakeland University and Aurora University, while falling to Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Elmhurst began the day with a 44-6 victory over Lakeland that saw Elmhurst win nine of the ten matches wrestled. Three Bluejays won their matches via fall, resulting in the team's largest margin of victory this season.

The team's second dual of the day saw the Bluejays take down Aurora, 27-19. Against the Spartans, Elmhurst fell behind 10-0 after two matches before both teams traded matches, with the score standing at 14-5 in favor of Aurora through four matches. The Bluejays were able to take advantage, winning five of the final six matches to take home the victory over Aurora.

In the final dual of the day, Elmhurst was defeated by Milwaukee School of Engineering, 25-20. The Raiders opened a 17-4 lead halfway through the matches until Elmhurst won three straight matches (two falls, one major decision) to take a 20-17 lead heading into the final two weight classes. MSOE won the match at 197 via a tight 2-1 decision, and a forfeiture at 285 gave the Raiders the victory.

Top performers for the Bluejays included Jeff Nugent with a 3-0 record on the day, while David Ortiz won a pair of matches in the Bluejays' victory.
