RECAP

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst University softball team split a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin doubleheader against North Park University on Tuesday afternoon.

Elmhurst (15-16, 6-6 CCIW) took care of business in six innings in game one, downing the Vikings 14-17-1, 6-4 CCIW) by a score of 13-5. The Bluejays started the game scoring four runs in the first, but North Park responded with four of their own in the first to knot the game at four a piece. Another three runs in the second advanced the lead to three, and after a run came across for the Vikings in the second, Elmhurst scored six unanswered runs in the final four innings, ending the game early on a walkoff, two-RBI single in the sixth.

Reese Coon led the way for the Bluejays in the opener, knocking in three runs on a pair of hits, while Jackie Orel and Maddie Trost knocked in two RBI to pace the Elmhurst offense. Brenna Morley had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Hannah Dunk scored three of the Bluejay runs in the game.

In the circle, Megan Wilson earned the first victory of her collegiate career after pitching two innings to start the game, giving up five runs and striking out three batters. Chiara O'Leary shut the door on the Vikings, pitching four scoreless innings and allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts.

In game two, the Vikings had their offense going early, scoring four runs in the first three innings and adding another six runs in the fifth inning to win, 10-1, in five innings. Hannah Dunk had a standout performance at the plate, knocking in the Bluejays' lone run in a 2-for-2 effort.
