Bluejays Drop Twinbill With Foresters

RECAP

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Lake Forest College by scores of 2-5 and 5-7, Sunday afternoon at Mohr Field.

Elmhurst (7-8, 0-0 CCIW) led at points in both contests, but strong performances at the plate allowed Lake Forest College (10-6) to take home both ends of the Sunday afternoon twinbill.

In game one, the Bluejays started fast at the plate, leading 2-0 through the first two innings before a three-run third inning put the Foresters ahead, while the Bluejays had no answer at the plate. Chiara O'Leary led the Bluejays both on the mound and at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI while also pitching all six innings, giving up eight hits and five runs to drop to 2-4 on the season. Reese Coon tallied the other RBI for the Bluejays, while Hannah Dunk contributed two hits and a walk for Elmhurst.

In game two, the Bluejays again led 2-0 after one inning thanks to a bases-loaded walk from Maddie Trost and an RBI groundout by Brenna Morley, but the Foresters scored one run in both the second and third innings to knot the game at two. The Bluejays ended up taking the lead again on a Coon single, but four runs in the fifth put the Foresters ahead 3-6 heading into the final two innings. The Bluejays put together a rally in the seventh, with Maddie Trost knocking in two runs on a double to trim the deficit to two, but it was too little too late for the Bluejays as the Foresters recorded the final out and took the final game of the day, 5-7.

Trost had a day at the plate in the second game, going 1-for-3 with three walks and three RBI to lead the Bluejays, with Morley and Coon (2-for-3, three runs scored) powering the Elmhurst offense. In the circle, Brianna Pisauro stared the game and kept the Bluejays in it with 2.1 innings pitched, giving up six hits but only two runs. Ali Mockenhaupt took the loss after giving up four earned runs, dropping her to 1-2 on the season in the circle.
