WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -Â The Elmhurst University softball team kicked off their Florida spring break trip Tuesday afternoon, dropping their first game to UW-Stevens Point before downing Wesleyan University.
Elmhurst (5-1, 0-0 CCIW) started their first day dropping a 0-2 decision to UW-Stevens Point, the team's first loss of the season. The Pointers scored two runs in the fifth inning, while the Bluejay bats were quiet, garnering just two hits in the contest. Despite the loss,
Chiara O'Leary pitched all seven innings for Elmhurst, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out two batters. O'Leary and
Maddie Trost provided the two hits for the Bluejays against the Pointers.Â
The Bluejays bounced back at the plate in game two, shutting out Wesleyan University 7-0 and amassing 13 hits in the game. Trost tallied a pair of RBI in the game, while
Bailey Proffitt,
Brenna Morley,
Jackie Orel, and
Hannah Dunk tallied RBI's for the Bluejays.
Reese Coon and Morley both provided three hits in the contest, and the Bluejays offense as a whole only struck out twice in the game.
Brianna Pisauro started the game in the circle and earned the win, tossing six scoreless innings and striking out three batters to move to 3-0 on the season.
Ali Mockenhaupt entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and recorded three straight outs to secure the victory for Elmhurst in the Sunshine state.Â
