ELMHURST, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University men's wrestling team earned a narrow 24-23 dual meet victory over Concordia University Wisconsin Thursday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Elmhurst (2-1, 2-1 CCIW) jumped out to a 24-10 lead with three matches to go, and survived a late push by the Falcons (0-3, 0-3 CCIW) to grab the narrow one-point victory for their second conference triumph of the season.
Donnie Fields began the night with a forefit victory, putting Elmhurst up 6-0. In the next match, a medical forefit from the Bluejays evened the score at six before
Troy Mock earned a fall at the 4:25 mark to put Elmhurst up 12-6.
Concordia would again keep it close with a major decision victory at 149, but Elmhurst would rattle off three-straight match victories from
Mataeo Blessing (SV-1, 5-2),
Jeff Nugent (Fall, 0:39), and
Joe Caringella (Dec, 10-3) to go up 24-10.
Concordia closed the meet with three-straight victories of their own at 184, 197, and 285, but fell just one point short to allow Elmhurst to pick up the league victory.
