ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Sydni Gizynski pitched a complete game shutout to help the Elmhurst University softball team split a doubleheader at Augustana College. The Bluejays fell 13-5 in game one but won game two 2-0 behind Gizynski's strong pitching performance.

AUGUSTANA 13, ELMHURST 5 (Game One) - Â Augustana scored the first 13 runs of the game and never looked back, taking game one by a 13-5 final score in five innings.

The Vikings scored six times in the bottom of the first with the big blow coming on a three-run homer from Morgan Beifeldt. The Vikings added seven runs in the second aided by two run doubles from Biefeldt and Claudia Buchholz.

Elmhurst ended the shutout with four runs in the fourth. Briana Pisauro started the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Hannah Dunk added a run-scoring single and
Reese Coon added a two-run double to cap Elmhurst's scoring in the fourth.

The Bluejays added an unearned run in the fifth to make the final score 13-5.

Jackie Orel recorded two of Elmhurst's five hits in the loss to lead the Bluejays at the plate.

Jena Hicks made the start and took the loss for Elmhurst. She worked 1.1 innings and allowed nine earned runs and 11 hits.

ELMHURST 2, AUGUSTANA 0 (Game Two) – Gizynski pitched Elmhurst's second complete game shutout of the season, limiting Augustana to only two hits while helping the Bluejays earn a split with a 2-0 victory in game two.

Elmhurst broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third.
Kate Sommer put the Bluejays on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly. The Bluejays doubled their lead in the fourth inning on a solo homer from
Hannah Dunk.

Gizynski took care of the rest, keeping the Vikings at bay for the remainder of the contest. She went the distance, scattering just two hits while not allowing a walk. She fanned five while throwing just 77 pitches in the complete game shutout.

Elmhurst (7-16/1-7 CCIW) hosts Wheaton College on Tuesday, April 19.
