CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst University softball team fell 6-3 in extra innings to Carleton College and fell 11-3 to MIT in the Bluejays' spring break road trip to Florida.
Elmhurst slipped to 3-7 on the season overall.Â
CARLETON 6, ELMHURST 3 - Elmhurst outhit Carleton 9-4, but Carleton scored three runs in the eighth inning to come away with the 6-3 victory.Â
Elmhurst jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning. Back-to-back-to-back doubles from
Madison Spencer,
Jena Hicks and
Jackie Orel staked Elmhurst to the three-run cushion.Â
Carleton scored a run in the fourth and added two runs in the sixth to pull even at 3-3. The Knights put the game away in the eighth inning with three runs.Â
Hicks finished with two of Elmhurst's four hits in the loss.Â
Sydni Gizynski made the start and took the loss, working 7.2 innings and allowing just four hits and five earned runs. She walked four and struck out two.Â
Logan Robinson went the distance for Carleton, scattering nine hits and five walks over eight innings of work.Â
MIT 11, ELMHURST 3 - MIT banged out 16 hits to topple Elmhurst 11-3 in five innings.Â
MIT struck first for three innings in the first inning. The Bluejays got a run back in the second on an RBI ground out from
Chiara O'Leary. MIT scored three in the third and four in the fourth to open up a 10-1 lead.Â
The Bluejays took two runs back in the fifth on a two-run double from
Alex Kiriakopoulos, but MIT pushed home a run in the bottom of the fifth to earn an eight-run victory in five innings.Â
Jamie Haas recorded two of Elmhurst's five runs and also scored a run.Â
Karly Krown made the start and took the loss for the Bluejays, working 2.2 innings and allowing eight hits and six runs. She walked two and fanned one.Â
