Men's Tennis Splits Two

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team moved to 4-3 on the season after splitting a pair of matches at the Brune Tennis Courts. The Bluejays fell 7-0 to the UIC Flames before bouncing back to defeat McHenry County College 9-0. 

UIC 7, ELMHURST 0 - UIC scored a 7-0 victory over Elmhurst to knock the Bluejays down to 3-3 on the season. The Flames took all three doubles contests to score the first point of the day. Elmhurst's Tomas Bella and Justin Penados dropped a tightly-contest match at No. 1 doubles do Daan bank and Gustavo Schwebel 6-4.

In singles play, Schwebel defeated Bella 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 while Kevin Kruzel stopped Penados 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2. Luiz Dos Santos defeated Ben Cavka 6-0, 6-1. Florin Stan was forced to retire to UIC's Artem Iermolov at No. 4 singles. Iermolov was up 6-0, 4-3 at the time of the retirement. Bank downed Brandon Fulmer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Theo Duclos stopped Russell Reyes 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6. 

ELMHURST 9, McHENRY 0 - Elmhurst improved to 4-3 on the season by blanking McHenry 9-0. 

The Bluejays swept the doubles matches with Cavka and Penados defeat Andrew Burkey and Jack Adams 8-4 at No. 1 and Fulmer and Reyes dispatching Riley Ellegood and Nick Belgrave 8-1 at No. 2. Bella and Yannis Varsamis defeated Pablo Sotelo-Avila and Calos Umana 8-1 at No. 3. 

In singles play, Bella downed Burkey at No. 1 (6-3, 6-1) while Penados followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Adams at No. 2. Cavka stopped Ellegood at No. 3 (6-0, 6-2) while Fullmer blanked Belgrave 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Reyes scored a 6-0, 6-3 win over Umana at No. 5 and Varsamis finished the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Smith at No. 6.
