DAYTONA, Fla. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team dropped its opening contest in the Mauro Panaggio Tournament to SUNY Brockport, 60-53.
The Bluejays were down just three points at the end of the opening quarter and the Golden Eagles only extended their lead to eight at the half.
Brockport outscored Elmhurst by just one point in the second half to earn the narrow victory and move onto the championship game against Nazareth College.
The Bluejays finished with two players in double-figures.
Anna Kleszynski and
Taylor Harazin finished with 11 points apiece and five and seven rebounds respectively.
Cate Boling chipped in nine points, while
Katie Matrise added in seven points of her own in the loss.
The Golden Eagles were led by Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and Brianna Cordell who each finished with 12 points. Cordell also posted a game-high 10 boards in the win. Anna Felice contributed 10 points, five rebounds and dished out four assists for Brockport.
Elmhurst shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the field compared to Brockport's 39 percent (23-of-59). The Bluejays fared better from behind the arc shooting 40 percent (6-of-15), while the Golden Eagles shot just 23.1 percent (3-of-13).
