Wrestling Earns Two Victories at Gator "Boots" Duals

RECAP

12/18/2022 9:23:00 AM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Elmhurst University wrestling team earned two dual victories at the 2022 Gator 'Boots' Duals hosted by Luther College.

The Bluejay wrestlers competed in three duals on Saturday, starting the day with a 44-10 victory over Fontbonne University. Justin Hames, Zach Kolb, Jeff Nugent, Joe Caringella, Norbert Crecan, and Colin O'Neil all earned victories for the Bluejays in the opening dual, with Nugent and Crecan both earning victories via fall.

The Bluejays followed the dual victory with a close loss to Trine University by a score of 28-21. Trine won the first five matches of the dual before the Bluejays began a comeback effort, with Nugent, Crecan, and Roberto Pena earning falls to tighten the score, but a loss in the 174 weight class ultimatley decided the dual in favor of Trine.

In the final dual of the day, Elmhurst got back on track with a 34-20 victory over the University of the Ozarks. After the Ozarks won four of the first six matches, the Bluejays rallied off four consecutive victories from Caringella, Crecan, O'Neil, and Andre Hunt to take home the dual victory and finish the day with a 2-1 dual record.

On the day, Crecan and O'Neil both finished 3-0 for the Bluejays while Hames, Caringella, Nugent, and Kolb earned two victories on the day.
