Women's Basketball Struggles at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team fell, 83-45, to Wheaton College in King Arena.

The Bluejays trailed 14-8 at the end of the opening quarter and headed into the locker room down nine points at the half.

Wheaton (6-3/1-1 CCIW) outscored Elmhurst 51-22 in the second half in route to its first conference win of the season.

Leading the way offensively for the Bluejays was Kendall Schieppe with 10 points, while MC Brown finished with eight points and three rebounds. Katie Matrise and Taylor Harazin added in six points apiece for Elmhurst in the loss. Harazin also pulled down a game-high 14 boards.

Wheaton was led by Caroline Sikkink who posted 25 points and six rebounds. Annika Richardson chipped in 10 points, while Lily Schwen dished out a game-high seven assists for the Thunder in the win.

Elmhurst shot 27.1 percent (13-of-48) from the field compared to Wheaton's 45.1 percent (32-of-71). The Thunder fared better from behind the arc and foul line as well. Wheaton shot 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from downtown and shot 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the free throw line. The Bluejays struggled shooting just 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from behind the arc and 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the foul line.

Elmhurst (1-7/0-3 CCIW) had a difficult time taking care of the ball, allowing Wheaton to score 33 of its points off of 26 Bluejay turnovers.
