ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University wrestling team picked up their first dual victory of the season, defeating the Carthage College Firebirds 38-9 Thursday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall.

The Bluejays (1-2, 1-2 CCIW) won six of the eight matches contested, and picked up two forfeitures from the Firebirds to cruise to the 29-point victory in their home opener. The Bluejays won two matches by fall (Justin Hames at 133, Norbert Crecan at 184), and one match by technical fall (Joe Caringella at 174), while the Firebirds (0-5, 0-4 CCIW) won the first match of the evening by fall at 125, and also grabbed a victory in the 157-pound weight class.

After dropping the first match by fall, Hames fought back and countered with a fall of their own to even the meet at six a side, and Troy Mock picked up a 7-4 decision victory to put the Bluejays up 9-6. A forfeiture at 149 gave Elmhurst a 15-6 lead, and the Firebirds picked up their second victory of the evening at 157. It was all Elmhurst from that point, as Caringella (Technical Fall, 15-0), Norbert Crecan (Fall, 2:51), Colin O'Neil (Decision, 7-0), and Roberto Pena (Decision, 6-2) all picked up victories for the Bluejays to seal the meet in favor of the home side.
