Women's Basketball Downed by Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team fell to Illinois Wesleyan University, 85-60, during its second meeting of the season.

The Bluejays (2-16) were outscored by the Titans in every quarter besides the fourth where they posted 22 points compared to Illinois Wesleyan's 12.

Elmhurst also outscored Illinois Wesleyan 36-to-33 in the second half of play, but struggled to recover from a nine-point first quarter and 15-point second quarter.

The Titans (12-7) jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first 2:37 of play and extended their lead to as many as 17 before the end of the quarter.

The Bluejays were able to get within six points (18-to-24) with 7:45 left in the second quarter, but were outscored 28-6 throughout the rest of the half to head into the locker room down 28 points.

Elmhurst struggled taking care of the ball resulting in 34 turnovers and allowing the Titans to score 42 of their points off of lost balls.

The Bluejays were able to grab 40 rebounds in the loss, three more than the Titans.

Illinois Wesleyan was able to extend its lead to 43 points with 3:41 left to play in the third quarter, paving its way to a comfortable 25-point victory.

Elmhurst was led by Taylor Harazin, who recorded the sole double-double of the contest, with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Chloe Conley posted a career-high 12 points, while teammate Katie Matrise added in 11 of her own.

Illinois Wesleyan finished with three players in double-figures. Leading the way, was Brooke Lansford with 16 points.  Kate Palmer chipped in 12 points, while Catie Eck contributed 10 points in the win.

Illinois Wesleyan barely outshot Elmhurst 45.7 percent (37-of-81) to 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the field.

Elmhurst returns to R.A. Faganel Hall on Saturday, January 29 to host the North Park University Vikings.
