ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team came up short at Augustana College dropping the contest 78-64
.
The Bluejays trailed by nine at the end of the first quarter, but were able to tie the contest up at 25 apiece with 7:21 seconds left in the second quarter. Elmhurst (2-12) went into the locker room down 37-34.
Augustana (7-6) led by as many as 14 in the second half, but Elmhurst kept chipping away and pulled to within three points with 8:13 left in the game. The Vikings were able to extend their lead from eight (with 1:27 left in the fourth quarter) to 14 with six made free-throws to seal their first conference victory.

Kate Matthews who scored a season-high 22 points along with 11 rebounds.
Morgan Collar added in 11 points and five boards, while teammate
Katie Matrise chipped in 10 points.
The Vikings boasted five players in double-figures. Leading the way was Gabriela Loiz who had 21 points and eight rebounds. Macy Beinborn added in 14 points, while Lauren Hall contributed 12 points and six rebounds in the victory. Both Emily Brenneisen and Emma Berg chipped in 10 points apiece, with teammate Erin Morrisey grabbing 11 boards.
Augustana outshot Elmhurst 44.4 percent (28-of-63) to 35.4 percent (23-of-65) from the field.
Elmhurst returns to R.A. Faganel Hall on Wednesday, January 19 to take on the Carthage College Firebirds at 7:00 p.m.
