DECATUR, Ill. – The Elmhurst University softball team suffered a pair of setbacks at Millikin University. The Bluejays dropped the opening game of the doubleheader 10-3 before falling 14-2 in the nightcap.

MILLIKIN 10, ELMHURST 3 (Game One) – Millikin jumped out to an early lead and put the game away later while taking the opening game 10-3.

The Big Blue scored a run in the first and three in the second to go up 4-0 early. Elmhurst (9-18/7-14 CCIW) cut the lead in half with two runs in the third as a Millikin error allowed a pair of runs to score.

Millikin scored a run in the fourth to extend its lead to 5-2. Elmhurst brought the deficit back down to two with a run in the fifth, scoring once on a
Jena Hicks RBI double. Â Millikin put the game away late, scoring twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth to come away with the 10-3 victory.

Veronica Zahn led Elmhurst at the plate with three hits.
Amaya Chavez added two hits for the Bluejays in the loss.

Hicks made the start and took the loss, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in four innings of work. She walked two and struck out three.

MILLIKIN 14, ELMHURST 2 (Game Two) - Â Elmhurst jumped out to an early lead but Millikin used a pair of big innings to score a 14-2 win in six innings.

Elmhurst grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on
Alana Batista's two-out, two-run double.

Millikin broke things open in the fourth, scoring six times and recording five extra-base hits in the inning. The Big Blue tacked on a run in the fifth and put the game out of reach in the sixth after sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring seven times.

Zahn recorded two of Elmhurst's five hits in the contest.

Briana Pisauro took the loss for the Bluejays after starting and allowing 12 hits and six earned runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Elmhurst hosts Carthage College tomorrow (May 2) at 12:00 p.m.
