ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University softball team slipped to 6-6 in the CCIW after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Millikin University. Elmhurst dropped a 4-1 10-inning contest in game one before falling 8-7 in game two.

Elmhurst dropped to 8-10 overall while Millikin improved to 16-6 overall and 13-3 in league play.
MILLIKIN 4, ELMHURST 1 (Game One) – Millikin scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to toppled the Bluejays 4-1 in a game-one marathon.

Elmhurst grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Bluejays loaded the bases with two outs and moved in front on
Veronica Zahn's RBI infield single.

The Bluejays had a chance to extend their lead in the fifth with runners on the corners with only one out, but Millikin defended a double-steal attempt and threw out the runner trying to score.

Millikin pulled even in the top of the sixth. Kaylee Goluch led off the inning with a single. After moving to second on a sacrifice and taking third on a flyout, Goluch scored on a wild pitch to even the score at 1-1.

In extra innings, the Bluejays had the potential winning run at second base with only one out in the ninth, but came up empty. Millikin broke the tie in the 10th inning. After Elmhurst retired the first two batters, back-to-back singles put runners at second and third. A wild pitch gave the Big Blue a 2-1 lead. Goluch singled home a run to make the score 3-1 an Leah Foreman roped an RBI double to put Millikin in front 4-1.

Elmhurst attempted to answer back in the bottom of the 10th. The Bluejays loaded the bases with one out, but a double-play ended the scoring threat and the contest.

Alyssa Filkowski and
Mia Riese totaled two hits apiece to lead the Bluejays at the plate.

Brianna Pisauro took the loss from the circle. Pisauro threw all 10 innings, allowing just eight hits and four runs. She walked four and struck out two. Aly Armstrong picked up the win for Millikin, tossing all 10 innings and allowing 11 hits and one run. She walked five and fanned eight.

MILLIKIN 8, ELMHURST 7 (Game Two) – Alyssa Filkowski belted a pair of home runs for the Bluejays, but it wasn't enough as Elmhurst came up a run short, falling 8-7 in game two.

Elmhurst struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a Filkowski solo homer in the top of the first. The Bluejays made it 2-0 in the third when Pisauro scored on a wild pitch.

Millikin answered back in the third, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring four runs to take a 4-2 lead. The Bluejays answered with three runs in the fifth to move in front 5-4. Filkowski started the scoring with her second home run of the game.
Mia Riese doubled home a run and later scored on a Big Blue error.

Millikin pulled even at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth on a solo blast from Lexus Tennison. Elmhurst moved back in front in the sixth with a pair of unearned runs. Zahn singled home a run and later scored on a Millikin error to give the Bluejays a 7-5 lead.

The Big Blue responded one more time, starting the bottom of the sixth with three straight doubles to knot the score at 7-7. Millikin took the lead on a Gretchen Gould groundout. Â Elmhurst put the tying run on base and in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but a groundout ended the game and gave Millikin the win.

Alana Batista collected three of Elmhurst's nine hits on the day. Filkowski finished 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs.

Karly Krown made the start and took the loss from the circle. She worked six innings and allowed 14 hits and seven earned runs. She walked one and struck out two.
