NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team won its CCIW opening contest with a 7-2 win over Carroll University.
Elmhurst (1-1, 1-0 CCIW) won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles contests.Â
The Bluejays' duo of
Justin Penados and
Brandon Fulmer opened with an 8-2 win over Lucas Nay and Brian Trefliek at No. 1 doubles.
Shawn Sabaricos and
Ben Cavka followed with an 8-5 win over Luke Barter and Michael Rose at No.2. Carroll's Ryan Strupp and Chris Jensen score a point at No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 win over
Florin Stan and
Jorge Duran.Â
Elmhurst breezed through the singles matches with Stan finishing off Trefliek 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to start. Fulmer followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rose at No. 4. Nay scored a 6-4, 6-0 win over Penados at No. 1 singles for Carroll's final point of the day. Cavka defeated Strupp 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 to clinch the contest for the Bluejays. Sabaricos rallied from a set down to topple Barter 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and Duran upstaged Jensen 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 6.Â
Elmhurst takes on Principia College on April 3.Â
