Boling's Buzzer-Beater Leads Bluejays Past Coe

ELMHURST, Ill. – Elmhurst University's Cate Boling hit a game-winning three-pointer as time expired to lead the Bluejays to a 76-73 victory over Coe College.

At the end of the first quarter, the Bluejays trailed 20-19, however the Kohawks scored 15 unanswered points to open up the second period giving them a comfortable 16-point lead. Elmhurst scored its first points of the second quarter with three minutes left and went into the locker room down 41-27.

The Bluejays outscored the Kohawks 26 to 24 in the third quarter to lessen the opponents lead to 12 points.

Elmhurst (2-10) tied the game up at 65 apiece after a 12-0 run to open the fourth quarter. Coe (4-7) took a brief two-point lead with 6:39 left in the game, but Elmhurst's Marissa Urso hit two key free-throws to tie the game back up at 67.

Coe's Ella Imler sunk a three-pointer with 5:31 left on the clock to give her team the 70-67 lead. 

Elmhurst's Boling hit her second of three three-pointers in the fourth quarter with 4:29 left in the game to tie the score back up at 70. With 1:13 left to play, Coe's Ellie Wisner hit the Kohawks final points of the contest to give them the 73-70 lead. Elmhurst's Marisa Mussatto tied the game up for the final time with 12 seconds left to play with a three-point play off of a layup and made free throw.

Just as time was expiring, Boling scored her third triple of the fourth quarter to give her team its second win of the season.

The Bluejays finished with three players in double-figures.  Leading the way was Urso with 16 points and eight assists, while Morgan Collar added in 14 points. Katie Matrise also chipped in 13 points in the win. 

The Kohawks also finished with three players in double-figures. Ellie Wisner posted a game-high 22 points with 15 of them coming from five three-pointers, while Kaalyn Petersen scored a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.  Molly Buck also contributed 13 points.

Elmhurst outshot Coe from the foul line 72 percent (18-of-25) to 50 percent (8-to-16), however, Coe outshot Elmhurst from the field 55.1 percent (27-of-49) to 51 percent (25-49).  The Bluejays also shot 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from behind the arc.

The Bluejays are back in action at Beloit College on December 30.
