ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team dropped its home opener 72-54 to Hanover College. 
 
Elmhurst (0-3) had three Bluejays in double digits.  Katelyn Matthews led the team with 14 points and five rebounds.  Morgan Collar followed closely behind with 13 points and five rebounds.  Rounding out the double-digit scorers for the Bluejays was Taylor Harazin with 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
Hanover (1-0) was led by Katherine Benter who posted a game high 15 points and 6 rebounds.  Taylor Heath contributed 12 points and three rebounds.  Anna Bauer chipped in seven points and a game high nine rebounds. 
 
The Bluejays outshot the Panthers 38.5 percent (20-of-52) to 34.9 percent (22-of-63) from the field.  However, Hanover cashed in on 36.4 percent (8-of-22) to Elmhurst's 20 percent (1-5) from behind the arc.
 
With just 41 seconds left in the half, the blue and white tied up the game on 29-29, however Hanover's Liz Tynan nailed a jump shot to give her team the 31-29 lead heading into the locker room.
 
The Bluejays got to within one point with 2:26 seconds left in the third quarter, however, the Panthers finished with a 7-2 run to lead 51-45 at the end of three.
 
During the fourth, Hanover took over offensively scoring seven unanswered points to close out the contest.
 
The Bluejays host Saint Mary's College at R.A. Faganel Hall for their next contest on Wednesday, November 17.
