ELMHURST, Ill. – Roberto Pena's first-round pin in the final match of the night, helped lift the Elmhurst University wrestling team to a 24-22 dual meet victory over Augustana College at R.A. Faganel Hall.
 
Both teams won five matches in the tightly contested matchup. Elmhurst (1-1) jumped on the scoreboard first as a last-second reversal gave Jake Mora a 7-6 victory over Ellex Williams at 125 pounds. Augustana's Trevor Boryla scored a 19-3 technical fall over Jeff Becerra to give the Vikings a 5-3 lead. Elmhurst quickly moved back in front as Jimmy McAuliffe pinned Kameron Hanel in 2:25 at 141 pounds. Alex Cruz toppled Elmhurst's Andre Neal 13-5 at 149 pounds to knot the dual score at 9-9.
 
Jeff Nugent vaulted the Bluejays back in front with a third period pin over Angel Cruz (6:10) at 157 pounds. Ronnie Massari followed with an 8-5 victory over Chase Clark at 165 pounds to give Elmhurst an 18-9 advantage in the dual.
 
Augustana won the next three contests to move back in front. Clay Debaille edged Joe Caringella 6-4 at 174 pounds and Jacob Badger followed with a 9-0 major decision over Norbert Crecan to pull the Vikings to within two points at 18-16. Adam Ederar gave Augustana a 24-22 lead entering the final match after he pinned David Ortiz in 4:23.
 
Pena secured the victory for the Bluejays with a lightning-quick victory over Jacob Ramos at 285 pounds. Pena struck for a takedown and promptly dropped Ramos on his back, earning the pin just seconds later to end the match in 56 seconds and give the Bluejays the thrilling 24-22 victory.
 
Elmhurst will compete at the Concordia University Open on November 20.
