KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst University women's soccer team closed out its 2021 season with a 3-2 road loss at Carthage College.
Gabby Ketola scored a pair of goals for Elmhurst (4-9-1/1-5-1 CCIW) but it wasn't enough as Carthage (5-11/3-4 CCIW) scored twice in the first half and added another goal in the third to earn the win.
Anna Butler scored first for Carthage in the 24th minute before Ketola scored the equalizer in the 26th minute. Malaika Bigirindavyi put Carthage in front for good in the 29th minute. The Firebirds' Morgan Verbeten gave Carthage a 3-1 lead with a goal in the 67th minute.
Ketola scored her second goal of the game in the 69th minute but Elmhurst came no closer as Carthage held on for the 3-2 win.
Carthage held a 25-16 edge in shots in the contest.
MaKenzee Velchek took the loss in goal for Elmhurst, allowing three goals while recording seven saves. Sara Lieffrig earned the win for Carthage with seven saves.
