ELMHURST, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University women's soccer team fell to Augustana College 2-1 in overtime at Langhorst Field.
The Bluejays (4-7-1) started off strong with a goal in the 20
th minute of play. Elmhurst's
Lauryn Wesoloski took a free kick and served it into the box where
Hannah Bacon headed the ball towards the goal, but was blocked.Â
Gabby Ketola got control of the ball and volleyed it in for her sixth goal of the season.
After an hour weather delay, play resumed with a newly energized and aggressive Vikings squad.
In the 57
th minute, a handball in the Bluejay goal box resulted in a penalty kick for Augustana's (8-6-0) Liesl Whitener.
The contest stayed locked at 1-1 for the remainder of regulation, so it headed to overtime.
With just 10 seconds left in the first overtime, Liesl Whitener took a corner kick for the Vikings and scored to end the game.
Elmhurst's
MaKenzee Velchek collected 12 saves, while Augustana's Janey Castoe earned the win with eight saves.
