DECATUR, Ill. – Jimmy McAuliffe posted a perfect 3-0 record on the day as the Elmhurst wrestling team opened the 2021 campaign with an 0-3 mark at the Millikin University duals.
 
Elmhurst opened with a 38-6 loss to Millikin before falling to North Central (26-20) and Augustana (29-18). 

MILLIKIN 38, ELMHURST 6 – Elmhurst opened the season with a 38-6 loss to Millikin, the defending CCIW Champion. Millikin won eight of the 10 contests wrestled to pull away for the 32-point dual victory.
 
Elmhurst scored its points from wins from Jimmy McAuliffe and Nevin Brittain. McAuliffe opened his season with a 7-0 shutout over the Big Blue's Jordan Carson at 141 pounds. Brittain added the final three points for the Bluejays in the dual with a 15-10 victory over Micah Downs at 184 pounds.
 
Millikin scored wins by fall at 125, 165, 197 and 285 pounds.
 
NORTH CENTRAL 26, ELMHURST 20 – Elmhurst slipped to 0-2 on the season after a 26-20 loss to Augustana.

McAuliffe, Zachary Kolb, Norbert Crecan, and Roberto Pena all scored points for the Bluejays in the loss. McAuliffe scored a win by technical fall over Collin Mojena at 141 pounds to move to 2-0 on the season. Kolb picked up his first collegiate victory by edging North Central's Eddie Villalobos 9-8 at 149 pounds. Crecan received a forfeit at 174 pounds while Pena earned a win by injury default over Ben Bergen at 285 pounds.
 
AUGUSTANA 29, ELMHURST 18 – Elmhurst closed the night with an 11-point loss to Augustana. The Bluejays scored four victories in the dual with McAuliffe, Andre Neal, Brittain and Scott Anderson all recording wins.
 
Neal scored the first points for the Bluejays with a 16-5 major decision over Matt Straus at 141 pounds. McAuliffe bumped up to 149 pounds for the dual and stayed undefeated on the day with a 16-7 major decision over Alex Cruz. Brittain scored his second victory of the day with an 11-3 major decision over Dylan Messer at 184 pounds. Scott Anderson accounted for the Bluejays' final points of the day by pinning Deven Pearson.
 
Elmhurst will wrestle at the Wheaton Duals on Friday, January 29.
