Kenosha, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's basketball team wrapped up their 2020 season on a high note, upsetting Carthage College on the road 75-73.
The Bluejays (10-15/ 5-11 CCIW) came out strong in the first quarter, taking the lead over the Lady Reds (11-13/6-9 CCIW) 16-11. In the second quarter Elmhurst outscored Carthage 28-22 and took an 11-point lead headed into the second half (44-33).
Carthage started to chip away at the Bluejays' lead and took a one-point lead half-way through the third quarter (45-44). After Elmhurst answered back and took a five-point lead, the Lady Reds tied the game 58-58 before the end of the third quarter. It was a back and forth battle throughout the fourth quarter.
Sophia Lathe knocked down a pair of free throws to give Elmhurst a one-point lead with 16 seconds left in regulation. Carthage missed a last second layup with four seconds left, falling to the Bluejays 75-73.
Lathe led the Bluejays by scoring 24 points while shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 4-of-8 from the three-point line.
Kween Jean recorded 13 points and four rebounds to help her squad.

Becca Gerke each added 10 points and combined for seven rebounds on the night. Elmhurst shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the field, 40 percent (10-of-25) from the three-point line, and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line.
The Lady Reds were led by Maggie Berigan's 16 points and four rebounds. She was assisted by Sammie Woodward's 15 points and four rebounds. Kelsey Coshun added 12 points and six rebounds while Lauren Herrmann totaled 10 points and seven rebounds on the night. Carthage shot 50 percent (27-54) from the field, 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from the three-point line, and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free throw line.
