HOMEWOOD, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team slipped to 2-3 on the season after suffering a narrow 5-4 loss to Prairie State College at H-F Racquet Club.
Elmhurst fell behind 3-0 after dropping all three doubles matches, but the Bluejays nearly rallied for the win by taking four of the six singles matches.
Marek Slojewski and Victor Dieltiens toppled
Grant O'Connell and
Shawn Sabaricos 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Renan Califfo and Richard Ngwarwi stopped the Bluejays' team of
Tomas Bella and Brandon Fullmer 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Panashe Garah and Nehmia Molla stopped
Florin Stan and
Reid Bertsche 6-1 at No. 3 to stake Praire State to an early 3-0 lead.
Elmhurst roared back in singles play before falling just short, as Bella toppled Jedrzej Brodski 6-1, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 1. Sabaricos followed with a 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 win over Miguel Ferreira at No. 2. Ulises Baradas stopped Stan 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 while Hesley Forbes defeated O'Connell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Fullmer defeated Tai Harrell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 while Bersche scored a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jibril Dean at No. 6 singles.
