BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's tennis team closed the book on its 2018-19 season by placing sixth at the CCIW Championships.
Elmhurst posted a 1-2 record over the two days to finish the season with a 7-13 overall mark.

NORTH CENTRAL 5, ELMHURST 0 – Elmhurst opened the conference tournament with a 5-0 loss to North Central College in Thursday's opening round.

North Central swept the three doubles matches to start the day. Victor Krueger and Andy Hinch defeated Elmhurst's
David Demoll and
Shawn Sabaricos 8-4 at No. 1. Tyler Bussell and Tyler Haizel downed the Bluejays' duo of
Grant O'Connell and
Lance Maharry 8-3 at No. 2 while Justin Howes and Lucas Pindak downed
Chris Wallace and
Tavious Imperial 8-5 at No. 3.

The Titans scored wins at No. 4 singles and No. 1 singles to finish off the dual. The remaining matches were not finished.

ELMHURST 5, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 4 – Elmhurst secured a spot in the fifth-place match by defeating Illinois Wesleyan 5-4 on Friday morning.

Elmhurst scored two points in doubles play and split the six singles matches to earn the 5-4 win. O'Connell and Maharry scored an 8-7 win over Justin Piotrowski and Tim Hughes at No. 2. Imperial and Wallace added an 8-2 victory over Michael Behrensmeyer and Cole Hundman at No. 3.

In singles play, Sabarico upended Ryan Yoo 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 while Maharry picked up a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win over Hughes at No. 4. Wallace recorded the Bluejays' final point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.

MILLIKIN 5, ELMHURST 0 – The Bluejays settled for sixth-place after dropping the fifth-place match to Millikin 5-0.

The Big Blue swept the three doubles matches and scored wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles to seal the win.

In doubles play, Jacob Palley and Colin Sandgren downed Demoll and Sabaricos 8-0 at No. 1. Greg Schwoeppe and Logan Bennett downed O'Connell and Maharry 8-3 at No. 2. Nick Laramee and Ryan Siroka upended Wallace and Imperial 8-6 at No. 3. Palley went on to defeat Demoll 6-1, 6-1 at NO. 1 singles while Bennett toppled Maharry 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4.
