DECATUR, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team split a CCIW road doubleheader with Millikin University. The Bluejays dropped game one 7-3 but rallied to take game two 3-2.

Elmhurst moved to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in league play with the split while Millikin moved to 18-6 overall and 4-4 in the CCIW.

MILLIKIN 7, ELMHURST 3 (Game One) – Millikin scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back, taking game one 7-3.

The Big Blue batted around in the first inning, sending 11 batters to the plate and cashing in on a pair of Elmhurst errors and four walks.

Elmhurst plated a pair of runs in the third on a two-run double from
Alexis Ramos, but the Big Blue tacked on two runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 7-2. Ramos drove in the Bluejays' final run of the game with a single in the fifth.

Ramos finished with two hits and drove in all three Elmhurst runs in the loss.
Veronica Zahn added two hits for the Bluejays.
Emily Despain made the start and took the loss for Elmhurst, allowing one hit and two runs.
Bailee Krantz pitched the final six innings, allowing six hits, two runs and two walks. Ally Armstrong went the distance for Millikin, scattering seven hits and three runs. She walked five and struck out eight.

ELMHURST 3, MILLIKIN 2 (Game Two) – Elmhurst rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn the doubleheader split, taking game two 3-2 in eight innings.

Millikin plated a run in the first and added another in the second to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead. Elmhurst cut the lead in half in the second on
Mia Riese's RBI single.
Alyssa Ressinger was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth inning. Two batters later, Riese delivered again, singling to drive in Ressinger and tie the game at 2-2.

Millikin threated in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but a fielder's choice and a pop out ended the threat. The Bluejays earned the win in the bottom of the eighth. With Riese on first and two outs, Elizabeth DiNuzzo reached on an infield single. Zahn followed with a walk-off RBI single to give Elmhurst the 3-2 win.

Val Perrelli collected three hits for the Bluejays in the win while Riese had two hits and drove in two.

Sydni Gizynski made the start for Elmhurst and worked 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and two runs in a no-decision. Jenna Hicks came on in relief and earned the win. Hicks allowed just one walk in 1.2 innings of work.
