CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst softball team's two-game winning streak was snapped in a 6-4 loss to Trinity College (Conn.) at the Spring Games in Florida.
Elmhurst (2-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a
Mia Riese sacrifice fly in the second, but Trinity pulled even with a run in the bottom of the frame.Â
Trinity (7-3) broke things open in the bottom of the third by plating five runs. Jenna Thomas started the scoring with an RBI double. Courtney Eri followed with a two-run double and Nicole Towne capped the scoring with a two-run homer.Â
Elmhurst got a run back in the sixth on an
Alexis Ramos single, but the Bluejays left two runners on.
Veronica Zahn doubled in a run and scored on a Trinity error in the seventh to make the score 6-4. The Bluejays brought the tying run to the plate but a pop-up ended the game.Â
Zahn led Elmhurst at the plate, finishing with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
Rebekah Ondracek added two hits for the Bluejays.Â
Jenna Hicks (0-2) made the start and took the loss for Elmhurst, working three innings and allowing six hits and six runs. She walked one and fanned two.
Sydni Gizynski pitched well in relief, striking out six and surrendering just two hits in two innings of work.Â
Elmhurst takes on UW-Whitewater and MIT tomorrow (March 23).Â
