Bluejays Go Cold in Loss to Vikings

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's basketball team suffered through a poor shooting night in a 77-55 road loss at Augustana College.
 
Elmhurst struggled out of the gate and finished the contest hitting just 29.2 percent of its shots. The Bluejays fell to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in the CCIW with the loss.
 
Augustana (12-9) started quickly, scoring the game's first seven points and quickly establishing an early lead. Leading 11-4 early in the first quarter, the Vikings finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to build a 19-6 lead after the game's first 10 minutes.  Augustana added to its lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Bluejays 16-10 to open up a 35-16 lead at the half.
 
Augustana pushed its lead up over 20 points at the start of the third quarter before Elmhurst fought its way back to a 15-point deficit midway through the quarter. The Vikings built their lead back to 21 points before Elmhurst closed to within 18 (54-36) at the end of the third quarter. The Bluejays scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to close to within 13 points, but Elmhurst would come no closer as the Vikings ripped off the next seven points to push their lead back to 20 before pulling away for the 22-point win.
 
Elmhurst hit just 19-of-65 shots in the contest (29.2 percent), including 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from beyond the arc. Marissa Urso led the Bluejays in the loss with a team-high 19 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from three-point distance. Lisa Logan added nine points and six rebounds while Kelly Weyhrich added six points for the Bluejays.
 
Augustana shot 46.6 percent (26-of-56) from the floor and also turned 15 Elmhurst turnovers into 19 points. Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Vikings. Scooter Lopez led the way with 17 points while Alexis Jones finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Izzy Anderson scored 11 and Clare Kramer finished with 10.
 
Elmhurst travels to Wheaton College on Saturday, February 2.
