Bluejays Streak Snapped at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped in a 70-58 road loss at Wheaton College. 

Elmhurst slipped to 12-9 overall and 8-4 in the CCIW while Wheaton upped its record to 17-4 overall and 10-2 in the CCIW. The win was Wheaton's 11th consecutive victory. 

Wheaton scored the game's first four points and never trailed in the contest. The Thunder built an eight-point cushion midway through the first quarter and carried a 16-8 lead into the second quarter. Back-to-back three-pointers from Kristi Demski pushed the Thunder's lead up to 12 points early in the second quarter, before Elmhurst mounted a rally. Trailing 27-15 with 4:48 remaining, the Bluejays closed the half on an 8-1 run, cutting the Thunder's lead down to five (28-23) at halftime.

The Bluejays carried their momentum into the second half, slicing the deficit down to just two points following a Jasmin Bailey three-pointer with 5:50 left in the quarter. Wheaton answered back by closing the final six minutes of the quarter with a 19-10 run to open up an 11-point cushion after three quarters (51-40). 

Elmhurst pulled to within seven points early in the fourth quarter, but a 13-2 run from the Thunder gave Wheaton an 18-point cushion with three minutes remaining and sealed the game in the process. 

Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the floor, including 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from three-point range. Mikaela Eppard paced Elmhurst in the loss with a game-high total of 18 points and eight rebounds. Courtney O'Donnell came off the bench to score 11 points in just 16 minutes. Kelly Weyhrich finished with nine points, seven rebounds and six assists. 

Wheaton hit 28-of-61 attempts from the floor to finish the game shooting 45.9 percent. The Thunder connected on 6-of-19 attempts (31.6 percent) from three-point distance, while outscoring Elmhurst 44-22 in the paint. The Thunder outrebounded the Bluejays 40-32. Devin Kyler paced the Thunder with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Hannah Frazier totaled 13 points. Maggie Dansdill also reached double figures in scoring, finishing with 11.
