Women's Hoops Team Falls in CCIW Tourney

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's basketball team's season came to a close with a 96-63 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University in the opening round of the CCIW Tournament.

The Bluejays finished the season with a 13-13 overall record while Illinois Wesleyan improved to 23-3 on the season.
 
Illinois Wesleyan scored the game's first five points and never looked back as the Bluejays struggled out of the gate. Elmhurst did not make a field goal in the opening quarter, shooting 0-for-8 from the floor. Elmhurst scored just four points off of free throws while also turning the ball over nine times. The Titans raced out to a 28-4 lead after the first quarter and pushed their lead to as many as 27 points early in the second quarter.
 
A 9-0 Elmhurst run brought Elmhurst to within 18 points, but the Bluejays came no closer for the remainder of the half as IWU extended its lead back to 23 points (44-21) at halftime. Elmhurst cut the deficit back down to 18 points at the end of three quarters. The Bluejays made it a 16-point game early in the fourth quarter, but the Titans outscored Elmhurst 32-15 for the duration of the game to cruise to the 33-point win.
 
Illinois Wesleyan outscored Elmhurst 40-18 in the paint while also turning 25 Elmhurst turnovers into 34 points. The Titans pulled down 11 offensive rebounds to score 16 second chance points.
 
Elmhurst shot 38.6 percent (17-of-44) from the floor, including 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from downtown. Mikaela Eppard closed out her Elmhurst career with 16 points and nine rebound. Lisa Logan added 13 points while Hannah Henderson scored nine. Kelly Weyhrich and Kaela Jones finished with seven points apiece.
 
Illinois Wesleyan shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61) from the field, including 36.8 percent from three-point distance. Molly McGraw led the Titans with a game-high 23 points. Maddie Merritt added 15 points while Ashley Schneider scored 13 for the Titans.
