WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team moved to 5-7 in the CCIW after splitting a doubleheader at Wheaton College. Elmhurst dropped the opener 8-2 but rebounded to take game two 11-3.
Elmhurst moved to 15-17 overall with the split while Wheaton improved to 8-28 overall and 4-10 in league play.
WHEATON 8, ELMHURST 2 (Game One) - Wheaton outhit Elmhurst 13-3 in the opening game to score an 8-2 victory.
The Bluejays grabbed an early 1-0 lead after
Bri Getzloff scored on a failed pickoff attempt in the top of the first. Wheaton answered back with two runs in the bottom of the frame to move in front 2-1. The Bluejays pulled even at 2-2 in the second on a Sydney Routsi RBI double, but Wheaton blew things open in the fourth with four runs. Three Elmhurst errors in the inning helped the Thunder put up the four spot. Wheaton tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth en route to the six-run victory.

Val Perrelli and Routsi each recorded a hit for Elmhurst. Hannah Clark led Wheaton with four hits and an RBI while Jaclyn McLean added three hits.Â
Emily Despain took the loss from the circle for Elmhurst, allowing 10 hits and six runs (two earned) over four innings of work. She walked two and fanned one. Kendall Kehres earned the win for the Thunder, tossing the complete game and allowing just three hits and one earned run.Â
ELMHURST 11, WHEATON 3 (Game Two) - Elmhurst salvaged the doubleheader split by scoring nine runs in the fourth inning on its way to the 11-3 win in five innings.Â
Wheaton jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first. The Thunder carried the lead through three innings, but Elmhurst blew things open in the fourth. The Bluejays sent 14 batters to the plate in the nine-run inning. Routsi smacked a two-run homer and Perrelli added a two-run single to help spark the Bluejays' nine-run outburst.
Wheaton scored a run in the top of the fifth to cut Elmhurst's lead down to six, but RBI singles from
Lauren Rismondo and Perrelli helped the Bluejays end the game in five innings.Â
Perrelli sparked Elmhurst at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three knocked in.
Rebekah Ondracek finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while
Lauren Rismondo and Tara Cannell added two hits apiece.
Stefanie Sanidas earned the win for Elmhurst, tossing five innings and allowing four hits and just one earned run. She walked two while striking out four.Â
