WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team's 2017 season came to a close after the Bluejays bowed out of the
CCIW Tournament with a 3-1 loss to #23 Wheaton College.
Elmhurst closed the season with a 10-6-1 overall record while Wheaton improved to 12-4-3 on the season and advanced to the CCIW Tournament finals in the process.
Making their first appearance in the CCIW Tournament in three seasons, the Bluejays fell behind in the first half after Wheaton tallied three goals in an eight-minute span.
The game was scoreless for over 22 minutes before Madison Peebles headed home an Anna Saunders pass to put the Thunder in front. Just over two minutes later, Saunders bent a corner kick into the net to double Wheaton's lead to 2-0. Chelsea Gnan scored 5:30 later to account for Wheaton's final goal of the game.
After being outshot 10-2 in the opening half, the Bluejays rallied back in the second, outshooting the Thunder 7-4. Elmhurst cut into Wheaton's lead in the 66th minute as
Heather Hoffmann knocked home an
Ali Richter pass.
Wheaton finished with a 14-9 edge in shots and an 8-6 lead in corner kicks.
Bryce Marchetti took the loss in goal for Elmhurst, recording two saves in the contest.
