WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst women's basketball team recorded its fifth straight victory by blowing out Carroll University 90-49.
Carroll (1-14, 1-6 CCIW)) had a short-lived 3-2 lead at the start of the contest, but the Bluejays outscored the Pioneers 16-3 for the remainder of the quarter to build an early 12-point cushion. The Bluejays continued the onslaught in the second, outscoring Carroll 27-9 to build a 45-15 lead at the half.
Carroll played nearly even in the third quarter as Elmhurst (13-3, 5-2 CCIW) outscored the Pioneers by just one (22-21). The Bluejays led by as many as 44-points in the fourth quarter before coasting to the 41-point victory.
Carroll had no answer for Elmhurst inside the paint as the Bluejays dominated the interior game, outscoring the Pioneers 64-24 in the paint. Elmhurst converted 22 Carroll turnovers into 29 points and the Bluejays' bench outscored the Pioneers' bench 31-3. The Bluejays won the battle on the glass as well, outrebounding Carroll 39-22. Elmhurst shot 59.4 percent (38-of-64) from the floor in the win, including 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from three-point distance.
Mikaela Eppard poured in 27 points and collected 10 rebounds in just 21 minutes of action while recording her 11th double-double of the season. Eppard missed just two shots in the contest, hitting 13-of-15 attempts from the floor.
Kalia Summerlin added 13 points in the win while
Hannah Henderson came off the bench to score 10.
Kaela Jones and
Becca Gerke scored eight points apiece for the Bluejays. Eleven different players registered points for the Bluejays in the victory.
Carroll finished the contest shooting 34.1 percent (15-of-44) from the field and just 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from three-point distance. Brittany Wald paced the Pioneers in the loss with 17 points while Caylee Koker finished with 12.
Elmhurst looks for its sixth consecutive victory on Saturday, January 21, when the team hosts North Central College at 2:00 p.m.
