Bluejays End Season With Losses to Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team closed the book on its 2016 season by dropping both ends of a doubleheader at the University of Chicago.
 
Elmhurst dropped the opener 5-0 and fell 14-5 in the nightcap.
 
CHICAGO 5, ELMHURST 0 – Elmhurst managed just three hits as Chicago's Jordan Poole twirled a three-hit shutout against the Bluejays.
 
Chicago (25-8) struck for a run in the first inning on a Maggie O'Hara RBI single. The Maroons tacked on two runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth on a Maevelf Garvey two-run homer.
 
Bri Getzloff, Mikayla Melone and Angela Villagomez each collected a hit for the Bluejays.
 
Poole notched the victory for Chicago, going the distance and allowing just three hits and one walk while fanning six. Stefanie Sanidas took the loss for the Bluejays, working six inning and surrendering eight hits and five runs while striking out three.
 
CHICAGO 14, ELMHURST 5  (Game Two) – Chicago scored early and often against the Bluejays en route to a 14-5 victory in five innings.
 
Chicago sent nine batters to the plate in the first and scored four runs. The Maroons took advantage of a pair of Elmhurst errors to six runs (five unearned) and take a 10-0 lead. Garvey belted a grand slam in the third inning to account for Chicago's final run.
 
Elmhurst scored a run in the second on an RBI single from Villagomez. The Bluejays scored four runs in the fifth to make the final score 14-5.
 
Faith Thompson recorded two hits for the Bluejays in the loss while Villagomez, Stephanie Hintz, Riley Schweig and Melone all drove in runs in the loss.
 
Stephanie Sturino made the start and took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering eight hits and 10 runs (five earned) in two innings. Stefania Passarelli finished up in relief allowing two five hits and four runs in two innings of work.
 
Elmhurst closed out the season with an 18-20 overall record.
