Elmhurst Earns Key Sweep of North Park

ELMHURST, Ill. - Claire Monroe and Mikaela Eppard both scored 19 points, leading ten Elmhurst scorers who contributed to the Bluejays' key 75-65 victory over North Park.

Monroe's season-high 19 points included knocking down 6-of-9 from three-point range, tying for the second-most three-pointers made in a single game in Elmhurst history, while Eppard scored her 19 by finishing 6-of-12 from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.

With the win, Elmhurst (13-10, 7-5 CCIW) sits alone in third place in the CCIW standings with the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Vikings (16-7, 7-5 CCIW). The Bluejays can clinch a CCIW Tournament birth with a win over North Central on Saturday.

North Park took control in the first quarter with a 7-0 run, taking an eight-point lead at 15-7. The Bluejays clawed back to 17-14 after one of Monroe's three-pointers, but Soly Roman knocked down a layup to propel the Vikings to a 19-14 advantage after one quarter. North Park scored 16 of its 19 points in the paint in the opening frame.

The Vikings once again jumped in front early in the second quarter, this time on the back of two three-point shots. Trailing 25-14, Elmhurst battled back once again, taking a 33-29 lead into halftime by scoring 19 of the half's final 23 points.

The Bluejays led for almost the entire third quarter, but North Park kept it close and finished the quarter on a 7-4 run to take a one-point lead into the final period.

Still locked in a tight game in the fourth, Eppard converted on a three-point play and then Monroe knocked down one of her six three-pointers to give the Bluejays a game-high six-point lead. Twice North Park pulled within three and Elmhurst answered both times with jumpers from Hannah Lipman and Kaela Jones. Jones' bucket sparked a 6-0 run that extended a nine-point advantage. North Park began to foul and four Elmhurst players combined for 9-of-10 at the free-throw line to seal the win.

Jones joined Monroe and Eppard in double-figures with 10 points. In her first game since mid-January, Lipman knocked down a pair of late free throws and finished with eight points. Elmhurst won the turnover battle (15-12) and made eight three-pointers in the victory.

North Park had four players reach double-figures, Rachel Torres (16 points), Liz Rehberger (15), Roman (13 points, 11 rebounds), and Gabriella Sandoval (10 points). The Vikings outrebounded Elmhurst 31-27, including 10-7 on the offensive glass.

Elmhurst can seal a CCIW Tournament spot when they face North Central this on senior day this Saturday, February 13 at 2:00 p.m.
