BELOIT, Wis. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team closed out its last non-conference contest of the season with a 70-61 win over Beloit College.
Elmhurst upped its record to 9-3 overall with the victory while Beloit slid to 2-7 overall.
The Bluejays led from wire-to-wire, scoring the game's first four points and never trailing in the contest. Elmhurst led 17-7 after one quarter and upped their lead to as many as 17 points in the second quarter. The Bluejays carried a 37-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Elmhurst led by 18 midway through the third quarter when Beloit mounted a rally. Beloit closed the quarter on a 14-5 run to pull to within nine points (53-44) after three quarters. The Bluejays pushed their lead back to 12 points with just four minutes remaining in the contest, but Beloit answered back, using a 13-6 run over the next three minutes to pull to within five (66-61) with one minute remaining. The Bluejays hit 4-of-6 free throws while keeping Beloit scoreless for the final minute to earn the nine-point victory.
Three Bluejays reached double figures in scoring in the victory.
Mikaela Eppard led the way for the Bluejays, finishing with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Jasmin Bailey came off the bench to score 13 while
Lisa Logan added 12 points and four rebounds for Elmhurst.
Hannah Lipman added nine points for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the floor in the win, including 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from beyond the arc. The Bluejays also won the rebounding battle 36-28.
Beloit shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the field and 25.0 percent (2-of-8) from downtown. Nora Polaski led the way for the Buccaneers with 14 points while Laura Panicali added 13.
Elmhurst resumes CCIW play on Saturday, January 7, when the Bluejays travel to Carthage College.
