Bluejays Sink UW-Plattevillle 73-61

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's basketball team upped its record to 8-2 with a 73-61 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
 
Elmhurst used a run in the second quarter to build a 15-point halftime lead only to see UW-Platteville pull even early in the fourth quarter. The Bluejays closed the game on a 27-15 run to pull away for the 12-point victory.
 
Elmhurst led 17-14 after the first quarter of action, but a 9-2 run by Platteville to start the second quarter gave the Pioneers a 23-19 lead with 6:30 left in the half. Elmhurst took over for the rest of the quarter, closing with a 19-0 run to build a 15-point lead at the half.
 
The Bluejays pushed their lead up to 17 points early in the third quarter before Platteville closed the quarter on a 17-4 run over the final 6:30 to pull to within four points (46-42) after three quarters. The Pioneers pulled even at 46-46 a minute into the fourth quarter, but were never able to recapture the lead as Elmhurst responded with a 10-2 run to build an eight-point cushion. The Bluejays pushed their lead back to double digits, before closing out the contest with the 12-point win.
 
Elmhurst shot 40.6 percent (28-of-69) from the floor, including 25.0 percent (6-of-24) from three-point range. The Bluejays dominated the game inside, outrebounding Platteville 48-38 and enjoying a 42-22 advantage on points in the paint.
 
Mikaela Eppard and Hannah Lipman posted double-doubles to pace Elmhurst in the win. Eppard poured in a game-high 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Lipman totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five assists. Kaela Jones finished with 11 points and seven rebounds while Lisa Logan added 11 points off the bench for Elmhurst.
 
UW-Platteville finished the game shooting 32.3 percent (20-of-62) from the field and just 11.8 percent (2-of-17) from beyond the arc. Morgan Horstman led the Pioneers with 17 points and seven rebounds while Cassie Hamer came off the bench to total 14 points and six rebounds. Morgan Hartman added 12 points for the Pioneers.
 
Elmhurst travels to Loras College on Monday, December 19.
